The Resume

    (January 28, 1853-May 19, 1895)
    Born in Havana, Cuba
Poet, author and Cuban nationalist leader
Killed in a battle with Spanish troops
Known as 'The Apostle of Cuban Independence'

Why he might be annoying:

When his wife and son returned to Havana rather than live in exile, he had a daughter out of wedlock with a New York boarding house operator.
During the Battle of Dos Rios, he led a suicidal two-man charge against the Spanish.
With his habit of wearing a black jacket and riding a white horse, he would have been easy to pick out even if he had offered the Spanish more than two targets.

Why he might not be annoying:

At age 16, he was imprisoned on treason charges for writing a letter to a friend disapproving of his decision to join the Spanish army.
Two years later, he was exiled to Spain after developing lacerations on his legs from the chains that bound him.
He was hailed as an inspiration by both Fidel Castro and the anti-Commuist Cuban exile community.
One of his poems was adapted for the Cuban patriotic song 'Guantanamera.'
    He was Cesar Romero's grandfather.
