His business interests includes Service Corporation International, the nation's largest funeral service business.
He is a notorious hot head.
He slapped Arie Luyendyk after a race when Luyendyk was disputing a race result.

He is the first to win four Indy 500s.
He was considered one of the toughest drivers in racing history.
The track doctor pronounced him dead after a stock car crash in Riverside, California in 1965. Another driver saw him move and revived him. He was back racing within 10 weeks of the accident.
He went to Indy for the first time without enough money to pay for a hotel room. He rented a room in a nearby house. He won nearly $3000 in prize money in his first Indy 500 appearance.
