    Its name translates as 'a good place to grow potatoes.'
    The 'Brown vs. Board of Education' Supreme Court case (1954) concerned segregated elementary schools here.
    It was struck by a tornado that caused $100 million in damage (June 8, 1966).
    It is the home of Fred Phelps.

    During the Bleeding Kansas conflicts of the 1850s, it was the capital of the Free Soil forces.
