Why he might be annoying:

    He got fired from an early mailroom job when he gave himself an unauthorized vacation.
    He liked to present himself as having worked his way up from the bottom, but he got his big break when he was made partner in a firm his uncle was CEO of (1896).
    He founded the brokerage with his brother Franklyn Laws Hutton, who got screwed over during the naming.
    At age 60, he married a 28-year-old divorcee.

Why he might not be annoying:

    When E.F. Hutton opened West Coast offices, he paid Western Union $50,000 for a private telegraph line from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, enabling his firm to execute in minutes orders that required hours at other brokerages.
    His firm was so dominant that it became synonymous with the New York Stock Exchange to Californians.
    His first wife died in the Spanish flu epidemic (1917).
    His son Halcourt died in a horse riding accident at age 18 (1920).
