Why he might be annoying:

    He never played in the major leagues.
    He was unable to guide the White Sox to the next level during Frank Thomas's prime years.
    He was fired by the White Sox after the 1997 season, despite the fact he posted a winning record in his 2½ seasons at the helm.
    He came off as being too abrasive as a manager, which rubbed his players the wrong way.
    He allowed Albert Belle to bring both his brother and bodyguard into the clubhouse, but forbid the other players to bring their kids inside it.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He replaced Gene Lamont as the White Sox manager at midseason, guiding the team to a 57-56 record (1995).
    Despite missing the playoffs, his White Sox teams were competitive.
    He kept the White Sox competitive, despite the fact they gave away their top pitchers to the San Francisco Giants in the White Flag trade.
    He was the youngest manager in the majors, when he accepted the White Sox job at 38 years old.
    He gradually worked his way up the ladder through the White Sox system, starting with their minor league affiliates.
