Two days after 9/11 he wrote an essay that sounded emphatic with the terrorists.
He has a mixed message on God.
He whines about American politics but lives in Los Angeles.
His voice has sometimes been described as sounding like a goat.
He's an unapologetic drug user (namely marijuana).

Why he might not be annoying:

The essay he wrote about 9/11 was originally meant to denounce the terrorists but it was misinterpreted.
He and Tom Morello created an activist organization to attract young people into politics.
Many of his fans are half his age.
His stage presence has been described as schizophrenic but at the same time entertaining.
