The Resume

Band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1969
    Members were:
    Gayle McCormick - lead vocals
    Rich Cliburn - lead guitar
    Larry Moss - organ
    Jerry Carter - bass
    Robert Evans - drums
Recorded the Burt Bacharach song 'Baby It's You'

Why they might be annoying:

They are a one hit wonder.
They started as The Smiths, not to be confused with those other Smiths.
While their first album had respectable sales, their second album flopped.
They disbanded after just two years together (1969-71).

Why they might not be annoying:

They were discovered in an L.A. nightclub by Del Shannon, who got them signed to a record deal.
Their 1969 version of 'Baby It's You' outperformed versions by the Shirelles and the Beatles, became a Top 5 hit and was awarded a gold record for selling over one million copies.
The album containing the hit, 'A Group Called Smith,' spent 11 weeks in the Top 40 Albums chart.
The 'Easy Rider' movie soundtrack contained their version of The Band's song 'The Weight' instead of The Band due to contractual reasons.
'Baby It's You' was featured in Quentin Tarantino's 2007 Grindhouse movie 'Death Proof.'
