Actress

The Resume

    (October 3, 1923-April 7, 2020)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
Portrayed Mazeppa in the original Broadway company of 'Gypsy' (1959)
Reprised the role of Mazeppa for the film version of 'Gypsy (1962)'
Perennial candidate for elected office in Washington, D.C.

Why she might be annoying:

She had no film roles other than Gypsy.
Later in life she had her name changed legally to just 'Faith.'
When Gypsy was revived on Broadway without her, she sued, claiming she'd created much of the characterization of Mazeppa herself.
She ran unsuccessfully for DC Mayor nine times.
She said: 'We've become the international business brothel of the world. I feel that Washington makes Vegas look like the Vatican.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She lived in the Virgin Islands for much of the 1960s.
She was a vocal supporter of the Green Party.
Although her lawsuit was unsuccessful, producers developed the Faith Dane Clause in actor’s contracts granting rights in any creative work actors do developing their charter to the production.
She frequently appeared either in costume or, at the very least, with her trademark bugle at public events.
Stephen Sondheim wrote the role of Mazeppa with her and her long-standing Cabaret act in mind.
She played a variety of musical instruments (including the piano, the trumpet, the flute, the drums, and - of course - the bugle).
