Author

The Resume

    (September 6, 1869-October 8, 1945)
    Born in Budapest, Hungary
    Birth name was Siegmund Saltzmann
Wrote 'Josephine Mutzenbacher' (1906), 'The Hound of Florence' (1923) and 'Bambi: A Life in the Woods' (1923)

Why he might be annoying:

He was an altar boy, despite being Jewish.
If you decided on the basis of his animal tales to give your kid a copy of 'Josephine Mutzenbacher,' you (and they) would be in for a surprise.
'Josephine Mutzenbacher' is a fictional memoir of a Viennese courtesan looking back at her sexual encounters between ages 5 and 12, including rape and incest.
At an exhibit of his works at the Jewish Museum of Vienna, an Autrian MP said, 'Everyone knows Bambi and Josefine Mutzenbacher even today, but the author Felix Salten is today to a large extent forgotten.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He received only $1,000 for the film rights to 'Bambi.'
He was responsible for a second Disney classic when 'The Hound of Florence' was adapted into 'The Shaggy Dog.'
'Bambi' was banned in Nazi Germany as a political allegory about the treatment of Jews in Europe.
After Nazi Germany annexed Austria, he and his wife fled to Switzerland.
He is one of the few authors who can claim to have written ednuring classics in both children's lit and erotica.
