The Resume

    (1981- )
    Brooklyn-based Hip-Hop 'electro'-themed trio
Signed by Jive Records, managed by Russell Simmons and Larry Smith
Members are Jalil Hutchins, John 'Ecstasy' Fletcher, and Drew 'Grandmaster Dee' Carter
Albums included 'Whodini' (1983), 'Escape' (1984), 'Back in Black' (1986), 'Open Sesame' (1987,) 'Bag-a-Trix' (1991), and 'Six' (1996)
Recorded the songs, 'Five Mintures of Funk,' 'Friends,' 'Freaks Come Out at Night,' 'Funky Beat,' 'Growing Up,' 'Be Yourself,' 'Freaks,' 'One Love,' and 'Haunted House of Rock'

Why they might be annoying:

Oh, the days of Hip-Hop horrorcore...
Their name is an obvious misspelled play on the name, 'Houdini.'
Chris Rock called them 'the Temptations of Hip Hop.'
They recorded soundtrack music for a 'Nightmare on Elm Street' movie.
As such, DJ Jazzy Jeff's 'Nightmare on My Street' tends to be incorrectly attributed to them.
Not all of their songs have aged well ('Friends' comes to mind).
Their attempt at a comeback failed in the 1990s.
They unsuccessfully tried to reinvent themselves by switching to the then-newer style of new jack swing.
When their negotiations to sign with Def Jam Records stalled, they signed on with Columbia Records under Jermaine Dupri (of course, it helped that she had got her start as a dancer for the group).
They never actually recorded their music in New York, or even the US, rather they were regularly flown to London to record in the studios owned by the Record Label.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were one of the first Hip-Hop groups to develop a following in the mainstream.
They were the first major Rap group to feature dancers in their performances.
They were the first Rap Act and Break Dance troop to Tour in the UK and Europe (or to even tour arenas, at all).
They were popular with a wide audience range; young enthusiasts as well as older listeners who appreciated the content of their songs.
They were inducted into the 4th annual Long Island Music Hall of Fame (October 2012).
They received the Icon Award from the Underground Music Awards (August 2012).
They have been sampled by Eminem, Nas, Tupac, Will Smith, Ice Cube, and Master P.
They remained on good terms, even after falling out of popularity, never officially 'breaking up.'
Their first singles, 'Haunted House of Rock' and 'Freaks Come Out at Night' remain staples at clubs during their Halloween-themed events.
One of their first hits, 'Magic's Wand,' was originally conceived as an advertisement for Radio DJ Mr. Magic.
Their 'Escape' album was certified for platinum-level sales by the R.I.A.A., and sold over one million albums.
