Why he might be annoying:

He started out in the minor leagues as a pitcher. However, in 1940 his pitching career ended when he suffered an arm injury while playing in the outfield on a day he was not pitching.
The Biographical Encyclopedia of Baseball (2000) wrote that Musial lacked (Joe) DiMaggio's grace and [Ted] Williams' intense personality.
After winning the World Series with Cardinals in 1946, the Cardinals failed to make the World Series again until 1964, the year after he retired.
Although he hit 475 home runs in his career, he never led the league during a single season.
He batted with a funny-looking corkscrew stance.

Why he might not be annoying:

He overcame the arm injury that terminated his pitching career to become one of the greatest hitters in baseball history.
He played in a record (not likely to be broken) of 24 All-Star Games (there were two All-Star games played each year from 1959 to 1962).
He likely would have earned greater recognition had he played his career in New York or Boston, like his more highly-renowned contemporaries DiMaggio and Williams.
He missed the 1945 season while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had exactly the same number of hits (1,830) in home and road games during his career.
His career total of 3,630 hits is fourth all-time, trailing only Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, and Hank Aaron.
He was named 'Sportsman of the Year' by Sports Illustrated in 1957.
He was named 'Player of the Decade' by The Sporting News for the years between 1946 and 1956.
He hit five home runs in a doubleheader versus the New York Giants on May 2, 1954.
At retirement, Musial held 17 Major League, 29 National League and nine All Star Game records.
A statue of Musial was dedicated at Busch Stadium in 1968.
He was selected to Major League Baseball's All-Century Team in 1999.
He is of Polish descent and was awarded Poland's highest civilian honor, the Cavalier's Cross Order of Merit.
He was Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
He served on a variety of professional boards and committees and has worked in many charitable and civic endeavors.
He married his high school sweetheart and has stayed married to her for more than 60 years.
Former baseball commissioner Ford Frick called Musial 'baseball's perfect warrior.'
He was a gentleman both on the field and off.
The Cardinals retired his uniform number 6 in 1964.
When his former minor league manager Dickie Kerr was having hard times, Musial bought him a new home in Houston.
