The Resume

    (June 10, 1913-August 14, 2007)
    Born in Yelets, Russian Federation
Composed three symphonies, four piano concertos, two violin concertos and two cello concertos
Scored the films 'They Met in Moscow' (1941), 'Six O'Clock in the Evening After the War' (1944), 'True Friends' (1954) and 'Hussar Ballad' (1962)
Secretary of the Union of Soviet Composers

Why he might be annoying:

He was an acolyte of Josef Stalin.
He denounced Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich for 'formalism,' 'neuroticism' and 'popular decadence.'
Despite those attacks, he appeared at their funerals to piously deliver the eulogy.
Less prominent composers who he denounced were blacklisted.
The New York Times called his second violin concerto 'expert claptrap from a party hack.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His two brothers were arrested in a Stalinist purge, one never to be seen again.
He claimed he used his position to ensure no Soviet composers were executed.
He argued 'Nobody could say no to Stalin,' and claimed 'My conscience is clear.'
