    Northern Hemisphere designations:
    Winter (Hibernal solstice, December 21)
    Spring (Vernal equinox, March 20)
    Summer (Estival solstice, June 21)
    Fall (Autumnal equinox, September 23)
    Only temperate zones have four distinct seasons.
    Depending on the region, there may be only two seasons (in tropical and polar areas) or as many as six (Hindu Ritu and indigenous Australian).
    They have inspired much bad poetry.
    They did not inspire the name of the Frankie Valli pop vocal group; it was the name of a New Jersey bowling alley.
    No matter what season it is, people will complain (summer is too hot, winter too cold, etc…)
    Much mythology is based on them.
    They inspired the logo for a Canadian hotel and resort chain founded in 1960.
    They were immortalized in a Vivaldi concerto (1723).
    They provide variety in terms of weather and plant life throughout the year.
    The Southern Hemisphere’s designations are the reverse of the Northern Hemisphere's (e.g. winter would be around the end of June there).
    If we weren’t complaining about the weather, we’d be complaining about something else.
