The Resume

He had a penchant for acquiring players who were starting to decline.
His record at the draft table was less then stellar.
He traded for his son, Eric weeks after the Avalanche won their first Stanley Cup, and was forced to trade him two years later in the aftermath of a player revolt.
He struggled to adapt to managing the salary cap in the post-lockout era, which played a factor in his decision to step down as the Avs general manager.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the architect of the Avalanche's first two Stanley Cup championship teams (1996, 2001).
He pulled off the Patrick Roy blockbuster trade, which was considered the game changer for the Avalanche franchise, looking to make their mark in the Denver sports scene.
He wasn't afraid to make a blockbuster trade if it was going to improve his team in both the short and long terms.
He was considered a shrewd talent evaluator by hockey pundits.
He was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, for his contributions with the Avalanche franchise (2008).
