Sports Team
    (1941- )
    Located in Auburn Hills, Michigan
Formerly known as the Fort Wayne (Zollner) Pistons (1941-57)
Played in the NBL (1941-48) and won two NBL championships (1944, 1945)
    Won three NBA championships (1989, 1990, 2004)
    Seven retired numbers: Chuck Daly's #2 (Coach), Joe Dumars' #4, Isiah Thomas' #11, Vinnie Johnson's #15, Bob Lanier's #16, Dave Bing's #21, and Bill Laimbeer's #40
Other former and current players include Dennis Rodman, Grant Hill, Ben Wallace, and Richard Hamilton
Their Bad Boys teams of the late 1980's were known primarily for their thuggery and cheap shots.
They had Dennis Rodman before he started coloring his hair and marrying himself.
They play at Auburn Hills, though their name is Detroit.
Even though they had a chance at picking Carmelo Anthony or Dwayne Wade in the 2003 draft, they drafted little used Darko Milicic.
They fired coach Rick Carlisle despite the fact he coached them to two straight 50-win seasons and a conference finals appearance.
They ended the Lakers' title reign in the 1980's.
They hold the record for most points in a NBA game when they beat the Denver Nuggets 186-184 in triple overtime (December 13, 1983).
They are the longest running team in the NBA, starting out in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the National Basketball League in 1941.
Even though they didn't originate in Detroit, their nickname definitely reflects Detroit and its automobile industry.
They entered the 21st century as having one of the best defenses in the NBA.
They hired Larry Brown after they fired Carlisle, and he led them to the NBA Finals his first year there (2004).
