    He was a slow runner.
    Throughout his playing career, he lived in the shadow of Mike Schmidt.
    He was the NL leader for grounding into double plays with 25 (1974).
    He spent the majority of his playing career with underachieving teams including one season with his losing hometown team.
    He had a bad temper at an airport during a flight delay which resulted in a $1,250 fine (April 11, 1979).

    He took the role as the starting third baseman after Joe Torre left St. Louis (1973).
    He played in the 1980 All-Star Game as he took the third base starting role due to Mike Schmidt's injury.

    He was instrumental in the Cardinals' victory in a very long game that lasted 25 innings against the Mets as he hit a home run in the 9th inning (September 11, 1974).
    He ended Doug Rader's 5 Gold Glove winning streak as he was the last NL third baseman to win the award until Mike Schmidt's award winning run of 9 straight years.
    He set the NL record for the fewest errors as a third baseman (8) (1980).
