Why Dubai, United Arab Emirates might be annoying:

    Much of the city is built by oil tycoons who have made millions by selling oil, which is contributing heavily to global warming.
    Many of its buildings have been built by South Asians working for less than $10 (US) a day, who have to sleep in poor and crowded conditions.
    Over 800 construction workers have died in accidents while working on buildings, mostly due to falling.
    Many construction workers have been forced to work in extreme heat, they also have no unions and strikes are illegal.
    The average temperature in desert heat year round is anywhere between 25°C (75°F) and 40°C (100°F), with the hottest day being 47.3 °C (117.1 °F).
    The city is growing so fast it is frightening.
    There are no street addresses in Dubai.
    Eighty percent of the residents of Dubai are foreigners.
    To go with the city's economic boom, they are constructing the world’s tallest building, the Burj Dubai, costing $ 4.1 billion (US) with an estimate height of 1.2k, double the size of the Empire State Building.
    There are 300 artificially created islands in the shape of the world costing $14 billion (US) with a sales price anywhere between $15 and $50 million (US) and one with a sale price $250 (US).
    A British Couple accused of having drunken sex on the beach were sentenced to three months in prison.

Why Dubai, United Arab Emirates might not be annoying:

    Most of the city’s revenues come from tourism, trade and real estate, while revenues from petroleum and natural gas contribute less than 6%.
    Despite being a Muslim country, there is no religious restriction and there are many places of worship for all faiths of people living and visiting.
    You can go skiing in the world’s largest indoor ski center, that’s 400 meters high and uses 6000 tons of snow.
    There are no taxes on income and there are no personal taxes either.
    It’s a playground for architects, with many architects from around the world traveling to Dubai to have their designs constructed.
    It will have the world’s first underwater luxury hotel, 'Hydropolis.'
    Dubailand land, when completed, will be twice the size of Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
    Dubai Mall will be the world’s largest shopping mall with over 9 million square feet of shopping space and around 1000 stores.
    It has a Golf Course Designed by Tiger Woods.
    Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Richard Branson, Greg Norman, Hillary Swank, Kylie Minogue, Giorgio Armani and Carlos Santana all have homes in Dubai.
