Murderer

The Resume

    (January 2, 1938-May 15, 2017)
Birth name is Ian Duncan Stewart
    Known as the 'Moors Murderer'
From July 1963 to October 1965, he and his paramour, Myra Hindley, abducted, tortured, and murdered five small children and adolescents around the Manchester area and buried their bodies on Saddleworth Moor
Convicted in May 1966 for the murders of 12-year-old John Kilbride, 10-year-old Lesley Ann Downey, and 17-year-old Edward Evans
    Sentenced to life in prison
In the 1980's, he confessed to the murders of 16-year-old Pauline Reade and 12-year-old Keith Bennett
Author of 'The Gates of Janus: Serial Killing and its Analysis' (published by Feral House, 2001)

Why he might be annoying:

As a child, he enjoyed torturing small animals.
Forensic experts believe he was a full-fledged psychopath by the age of seventeen.
During his youth, he acquired a considerable rap sheet and spent some time in reform schools for burglary, housebreaking, and drunk and disorderly conduct.
He was obsessed with Hitler and Nazism and collected Nazi memorabilia.
He was constantly reading books about torture and murder, some of his favorites included Dostoyevsky's 'Crime and Punishment' and the Marquis de Sade.
He was always hatching plans for robberies and get-rich-quick schemes.
He took great satisfaction tutoring his girlfriend, Myra Hindley, in his warped creed of crime and depravity. Had Myra never met him, her life may have turned out very differently.
He and Myra's pet names for each other were 'Neddie' and 'Hessie.'
He suggested to Myra that they should murder children to demonstrate their superiority over ordinary people.
He always picked on victims who were innocent and could not defend themselves.
He raped the children before killing them and then buried their bodies on the moors. He also liked to keep souvenirs of the murders such as photographs of the burial sites and a tape-recording of one of his victims, 10-year-old Lesley Ann Downey, pleading for her life and screaming for her mother.
He was arrested by police after he tried to indoctrinate Myra's brother-in-law, David Smith, into his killing cult by inviting him to witness the murder of Edward Evans.
The autopsy indicated that Brady had hit Evans fourteen times with the blunt edge of a hatchet before finishing him off with a length of electrical flex.
He and Myra escaped the death penalty by a matter of weeks since capital punishment had been abolished in Britain only one month before the two of them were arrested.
When he was questioned by police he went out of his way to implicate Smith in the murders and get Myra off the hook.
He was arrogant and impertinent during his court cross-examination.
His mental health rapidly deteriorated in prison.
He spent the first twenty years of sentence in solitary confinement before being transferred to a secure mental hospital.
He callously destroyed the lives of his victims' families and the body of one of the murdered children has never been found.
He is cunning and manipulative and likes to play mind games with police investigators and hospital staff.
He is vain and pretentious and likes to show off his intellect by using a lot of big words.
Despite all the time he has spent behind bars, his attitudes about crime and murder have never changed. In 2001, he published a book, 'The Gates of Janus: Serial Killing and its Analysis,' espousing his twisted philosophical views.
Recently he has been trying to kill himself by refusing to eat, and hospital staff have had to force-feed him by inserting a plastic tube into his nose.
His axe-murder of Edward Evans was immortalized in a song by the British industrial band Throbbing Gristle.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had an unhappy and dysfunctional childhood.
He was born illegitimate in a tough slum area of Glasgow and never knew his biological father.
Shortly after he was born, his mother sent him to live with a foster family because she could not afford to support him.
He is well-versed in literature, philosophy, classical music, and psychiatry.
Visitors describe him as highly intelligent.
He has had correspondence with some of the families of his victims.
He does not believe in insincere, grandstanding displays of emotion.
His meticulous documentation of his crimes made it easier for police to reconstruct the details of the murders and recover all but one of the victims' bodies.
During his incarceration he has worked translating books into Braille.
He has accepted the consequences of his actions and has never sought parole or asked forgiveness for his crimes.
