    Award was for their combined discovery and work with the enzyme telomerase
    BS in cell biology from McGill University and PhD in biochemistry from Cornell University
    Winner of the Lasker Award and the Genetics Society of America Medal
    Has published over 170 journal articles and holds 13 patents
    Teaches at Harvard Medical School

Why he might be annoying:

    He was overshadowed by Grieder and Blackburn because of the media's fascination with their being women and their more outgoing personalties.
    He created the world's first artificial yeast chromosome for some reason.

Why he might not be annoying:

    In addition to his work with telomerase, he has made major contributions to the Human Genome Project.
    He has made major strides towards understanding the origins of life with the creation of RNA in his laboratory.
    His work with telomerase may very will lead to a cure for cancer someday.
    As a geneticist, he was able to make a unique contribution to the study of telomerase vis a vis Greider and Blackburn who are pure biochemists.
    He shuns publicity.
