Why he might be annoying:

He was a member of the Republican Party, but quit the party when interventionist conservatives like William F. Buckley took over the party.
He was a former associate of Ayn Rand. (He later lampooned their former relationship in his play 'Mozart Was a Red.')
He advocated an alliance with the New Left anti-war movement during the Vietnam War, but criticized them for adopting a 'People's Republic' style draft.
He was active in the Libertarian Party during the 1970s and 1980s, but left the party over cultural issues.
He supported Pat Buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign and later regretted it when he saw that Buchanan was a state-ist sellout.
William F. Buckley wrote a bitter obituary criticizing his political views.

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended Columbia University and New York University.
He cites Ludwig von Mises and American anarcho-individualists like Lysander Spooner as his core influences.
He believed that Libertarians should adopt any non-immoral tactic available to them to bring about liberty.
An obituary at the New York Times called him 'an economist and social philosopher who fiercely defended individual freedom against government intervention.'
He created Rothbard's Law, which states that people tend to specialize at what they're worst at.
