Why Barney Miller might be annoying:

Despite being set in a Police Precinct in turbulent 1970's New York City, there was rarely a violent crime suspect shown in custody.
Barney's Family mysteriously disappeared after the 1976 season.
The show had a lot of new and unexplained faces in its last season.
In 7 seasons on ABC, there were only 11 scenes outside of the 12th Precinct Squad room (scenes, not episodes).
The episodes were originally taped before a live audience. This element of the show was eliminated in later episodes and substituted with canned laughter.
The producers were approached during the run of the series about doing a feature film based on the show, but the film was never made.

Why Barney Miller might not be annoying:

The show featured a prop chalk board that the cops used to to keep track of who was on duty. When the show ended, the chalk board was donated to Smithsonian Television Museum. Besides the names of the characters on the show, the board's other names were those of the ABC technicians who worked on the show's crew.
In 1979, an episode was done with the actors out of character as a tribute to actor Jack Soo, who played Det. Nick Yemana. Soo had died of cancer of the esophagus in 1979. The episode consisted of unscripted reminiscences of Jack Soo by the cast members, intercuts with clips of Soo from the show. At the end of this episode, the cast raised their coffee cups as a salute to him.
During its broadcast run amid the many cop shows on television, many real-life police officers considered this the TV show that best depicted the reality of police life.
