Some viewers (morons) called the Coast Guard trying to get them rescued.

Why Gilligan's Island might not be annoying
The original vision of the series by creator Sherwood Schwartz was to create a microcosm of America and place it on a deserted island.
Jerry Van Dyke originally wanted to play Gilligan and Carroll O'Connor the Skipper.
