Why Shanghai, China might be annoying:

After the end of the first Opium War, China was forced to open Shanghai to foreign trade.
During the Taiping Rebellion, it was under control of criminal Triads.
After the first Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), China was forced to give Japan special rights in Shanghai.
During the second Sino-Japanese (1937-1945), Shanghai was under Japanese occupation.
Mao Zedong's communist forces took over Shanghai (1949).
Temperatures range from freezing during winter to 32°C (90°F) during summer.
One word: TRIADS!!!

It's home to China's tallest building (The Oriental Pearl Tower).
It's China's financial and trade center.
It was economically prosperous and socially stable during the Cultural Revolution.
It has beautiful architecture.
It has the largest port in the world (as of December 2004).
The name Shanghai literally means 'onto the sea.'
