Won the Battle of Stones River (December 30, 1862-January 2, 1863) and the Tullahoma Campaign (June 24-July 3, 1863)
Relieved of command after losing the Battle of Chickamauga (September 19-20, 1863)
Served as US Minister to Mexico (1868-69)
Democratic Representative from California (1881-85)

Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed 'Old Rosy,' partly from his last name and partly because he had a large red nose.
He openly quarrelled with his superiors, including General Ulysses S. Grant and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.
He lost the Battle of Chickamauga largely by issuing a badly-worded order to one of his division commanders that resulted in a large gap forming in the Union lines.
After the battle, Lincoln said that Rosecrans seemed 'confused and stunned like a duck hit on the head.'
As of 2013, he was the highest-ranking Union general not to be honored with an equestrian statue.

Why he might not be annoying:

He designed and installed the lock and dam system on the Coal River in West Virginia (1855).
He obtained patents for a kerosene lamp and a method of manufacturing soap.
While president of the Preston Coal Oil Company, he was burned in an oil refinery fire (1859).
In the Battles of Corinth and Stones River, he rode at the front lines to rally his troops.
Lincoln called his outflanking of Braxton Bragg during the Tullahoma campaign 'the most splendid piece of strategy I know of.'
