Wrote many scripts for 'The Twilight Zone (1959-1965)'
Also wrote 'I Am Legend (1954),' 'Third From the Sun (1954),' 'The Shrinking Man (1956),' 'A Stir of Echoes (1958),' 'Duel (1971),' 'Hell House (1971),' 'Bid Time Return (1975),' 'What Dreams May Come (1978)' and 'The Path: Metaphysics for the '90s (1993)'

Why he might be annoying:

His prose style was flat and rather generic.
He was often accused of paranoia and hatred of humanity.
He blew his chance to write the screenplay for 'The Birds' when he told Alfred Hitchcock that he didn't think they should show the birds much.
Some of his novels were made into lousy movies.
He stopped writing horror stories to concentrate on dull 'inspirational' literature.

Why he might not be annoying:

He fought as an infantryman in World War II.
His 'Twilight Zone' screenplays were so good, he usually didn't need to write a second draft.
His writings are skeptical of government, religion, and many other aspects of human society.
His stories have been ripped off by many horror professionals who went on to become more successful than him (George A. Romero, M. Night Shyamalan, etc.).
Stephen King considers him such an influence that he once said: 'Richard Matheson is my father.'
