Artist

The Resume

    (June 9, 1954-May 6, 2022)
Born in New York City , New York
    Hispanic-American comic book artist
Known for his work on Marvel/DC comic books The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, Teen Titans, Justice League of America, Superman, and Wonder Woman
Best known for his collaboration with Marv Wolfman on DC's 50th Anniversary on 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' (1985)

Why he might be annoying:

He quit as an artist for the 2012 Superman reboot series over disagreements with the editors over Superman's character.
He said in an interview that Audrey Landers had the personality 'but not right figure' to play Kory/Starfire in a hypothetical Teen Titans movie.
His homemade trademark Hawaiian shirts have actually developed their own following at comic conventions.
He was accused of modeling the spokesperson for the fictional DC Comics fast food chain, Big Belly Burger, on writer Kurt Busiek.
He separated from DC Comics for several years after he was denied a writing gig for the Wonder Woman reboot series.
A sequel to the X-Men/Teen Titans crossover with him as the artist fell through due to creative differences in 1983.
He left his widely acclaimed gig on the Avengers reboot, in 2003, to draw for an obscure comic publication, CrossGen.
He penciled only eight issues of Solus and four issues of CrossGen Chronicles, both of which were meant to be ongoing series until CrossGen went bankrupt.
For some reason he only did fill-in work for the heavily hyped 2006 follow up to his baby, Crisis on Infinite Earths, with Phil Jimenez as the main artist instead (it didn't measure up to the original anyway).

Why he might not be annoying:

He enjoys drawing for team comic books because he has no one favorite comic book character.
He is widely believed to be the heir apparent to Jack Kirby's artistic legacy.
To be frank, his artistic ability speaks for itself (he probably broken his hand working on the original Crisis pages).
He won the Jack Kirby Award in two consecutive years (1985-1986).
He received the Eagle Award four times (in 1979, 1980, 1986, and 2000).
He made an animated cameo in Cartoon Network's Teen Titans series.
He succeeded with Marv Wolfman in doing the impossible - actually making Robin, Flash, and Wonder Woman into cool characters.
He was slated to do a Justice League/Avengers crossover in 1983, but editorial conflict between DC and Marvel scuttled the project, with only 21 pages completed.
He had a clause inexplicably inserted into his contract with CrossGen stating that, should he ever be called on to finish the project, he would be able to go on leave to do it.
Twenty years after the original JLA/Avengers project failed, he finally completed the anticipated project with Kurt Busiek (in comic fan terms, a bigger deal than The Beatles and The Stones touring together in the 60s).
He is involved in his community playhouse's theatrical productions and even volunteers his time to do artwork for production flyers and programs.
