Why he might be annoying:

Since the material was being sent in email and through the mail, it took months for one or two songs to be completed.
They received a 'ceast and desist' letter in the mail from the actual Postal Service regarding their name, which created months of war and legal troubles between them.
One of the settlements was having to perform a concert for the staff who have no knowledge of the band's music.

Why he might not be annoying:

Ben and Jimmy conversed via email to create their music. Jimmy sent the electronic parts and Ben wrote the lyrics, sang and played guitar on those parts.
Their name was received by this exchange of music.
Ben, Jimmy and Jenny were all total strangers producing a record together and still got critical acclaim and great live reviews.
All four members are in other bands that have had much success. Ben is the vocalist and guitarist for popular rock band, 'Death Cab For Cutie,' Jimmy is an electronic producer called Dntel, Jenny Lewis is the vocalist and guitarist for alternative rock band, 'Rilo Kiley' and Jen Wood was in a band called 'Tattle Tale-r.'
The legal war between the band and the Postal Service was settled when it was decided that they will sponsor them in USPS ads, commercials, campaigns and promotions (2004).
Their album 'Give Up' spent over a year on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, producing one major dance hit, 'The District Sleeps Alone Tonight.'
They are one of the most popular bands among indie listeners and underground music followers, only being a little exposed to MTV.
