Why he might be annoying:

He left boarding school after striking the headmaster.
He wrote that homosexuals were 'uniformly bitchy, envious, self-seeking, fickle and usually without passion,' while carrying on a long-term affair with fellow playwright Anthony Creighton.
He threw his daughter out of the house when she was 17 and never spoke to her again.
After ex-wife Jill Bennett committed suicide, he wrote that his only regret was that he did not get a chance to spit into her coffin (1990).

Why he might not be annoying:

'Look Back in Anger' was named the 4th most important play of the 20th century by the Royal National Theatre.
His discussion of homosexuality in 'A Patriot for Me' brought an end to the censorship of British plays by the Lord Chamberlain.
He said, 'Whenever anyone tells me that a scene or a line in a play of mine goes too far in some way, then I know my instinct has been functioning as it should.'
He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Writer's Guild of Great Britain.
