The Resume

    (January 12, 1893-February 22, 1970)
    Born in Manhattan, New York
Head of Warner Brothers Cartoons (1944-58)

Why he might be annoying:

Chuck Jones called him 'an interfering bore with no sentiment or appreciation towards animated cartoons.'
Fellow animator Robert McKimson said, 'It was such a square idea of humor that he had. We made pictures in spite of him rather than because of him.'
He opposed pairing Tweety and Sylvester, but when their first cartoon together won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, he accepted the Oscar.
He said about that first Oscar win for a Warner Brothers cartoon, 'I'm afraid my family was more excited about it than I was.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He won the New York state amateur boxing bantamweight championship (1914).
He inspired some classic Looney Tunes cartoons, if only because of the animators' desire to prove him wrong: his declaration 'Camels aren't funny' prompted Fritz Freleng to make 'Sahara Hare,' while Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese created 'Bully for Bugs' in response to his insistence that there was nothing funny about bullfighting.
While accepting the Oscar for 'Tweety Pie,' he said, 'The one man who really should be up here getting this award is the director of the picture, Fritz Freleng.'
Proving he meant it, he left the Oscar to Freleng in his will. (He also left the Oscar for 'Birds Anonymous' to voice actor Mel Blanc.)
