    Author Paul Gallico called him 'never anything more than a fourth-rater at prize fighting.'
    His rise to the title was aided by a number of fixed fights.
    Boxer Eddie Schaaf died two days after Carnera knocked him out (1933).
    He was successfully sued by a Soho waitress for 'breach of promise.' (1933)
    He unsuccessfully sued Columbia Pictures to stop the release of 'The Harder They Fall,' a story about corruption in boxing featuring a fighter based on Carnera (1956).
    He joined the anti-fascist underground in Italy during World War II.
    He retired from boxing after having a kidney removed due to diabetes.
    His manager stole the money he earned boxing.
    He had a successful second career as a popular pro wrestler.
