Wrestler

The Resume

    (1953-June 2, 1998)
    Birth name is Sylvester Ritter
Wrestled for the WWE and Mid-South Wrestling

Why he might be annoying:

When he was wrestling, the crowd would chant, ‘Who dat think they can beat dat Dog? Who dat?’
He would wear a chain that he named, ‘Ruby.’
In his early days wrestling in New Orleans, his opponents, Ted DiBiase among them, wouldn’t drive to the arena because they feared their cars would be destroyed and would sneak out of the place in somebody’s trunk.
In the Mid-South promotion, a fan once charged the ring with a gun, aiming it right at the face of his opponent.
When he first started wrestling, he had no idea how to wrestle so he would go out there and fight for real.
His winning The Wrestling Classic tournament was controversial, as he only wrestled three matches while Randy Savage, the man he beat to win the tournament, was wrestling his fourth match of the night.
His career was cut short due to marital and cocaine problems.
His drug caused many terrible matches which led to him being fired from promotions and leaving the business altogether.
He died while falling asleep at the wheel causing his car to flip three times and crashing. Many believe drugs were involved in the accident.
He was buried wearing a T-shirt.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was enormously popular.
His post-match dances were a favorite, as kids and fans would flood the ring and dance with him.
He was one of the few black wrestlers in all of wrestling at the time and had a huge following in the black community.
In the Mid-South promotion, he was the first-ever black man to become the top face in a major wrestling company, a move many thought was a gamble but he proved them wrong.
The Junkyard Dog is regarded as Bill Watts’ most successful creation.
In the beginning of his career in New Orleans, he was such a hero to the fans that people wouldn’t want to wrestle him because they were afraid of getting mugged.
On the WWF’s first Pay-Per-View event, The Wrestling Classic, he won the tournament after beating three men in one night.
His match at WrestleMania 2 against Terry and Dory Funk is considered one of the best matches on the whole card.
One of his most memorable moments was leaving the Pontiac Silverdome wearing Harley Race’s cape, waving to the fans while they were going crazy cheering for him.
His funeral was attended by basically the entire town of Wadesboro, 1,500-2,000, and many people sent flowers and best wishes, one of which was Michael Jordan.
The WWE named him of the 50 greatest wrestlers in the history of the company.
