Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He had such a reputation for doctoring baseballs that he was nicknamed 'Black & Decker.'
He was ejected from a game for throwing scuffed balls (1978).
He holds the modern record for most at-bats without a home run (1,354).
Critics of his Hall of Fame election noted that he never won the Cy Young Award, won 20 games only one season, and rarely led the league in any statistical category.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was born in a tar-paper shack to poor sharecroppers.
Supporters of his induction to the Hall of Fame noted he would have been the first pitcher with 300 wins or 3,000 strikeouts left out of the Hall.
He showed a good sense of humor about his reputation: an ump searching his glove found the note, 'You're getting warm, but it's not here.'
He and spitballer Gaylord Perry exchanged gifts: he gave Perry a tube of Vaseline, while Perry gave him a sheet of sandpaper.
