He abused cocaine during his playing career.
He was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana with the intention of distributing (1990).
He spent the early part of his career on a poor Saints team.
He shares his name with the former football coach.
Some football pundits felt he could have posted better numbers if his career didn't get derailed by drug use.
Why he might not be annoying
He was the first player in the history of the University of South Carolina football program to have his jersey retired.
He was the first of five Heisman Trophy winners to be drafted by the Saints franchise.
He led the NFL in rushing yards during his rookie season (1981).
He was able to finish his career by winning a Super Bowl championship with the Redskins.
Following his arrest, he turned his life around and began doing public speaking about the dangers of drug use.
