Centerman for the Toronto Maple Leafs (1955-60), Montreal Canadiens (1961-62), Chicago Black Hawks (1962-66), New York Rangers (1966-67) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (1967-68)
Head coach for the Montreal Canadiens (1970-71) and the Atlanta/Calgary Flames (1979-82, 2002-03)

Why he might be annoying:

He was criticized by his players in Montreal because he doesn't know a lot of the French language.
He made a controversial decision to bench Henri Richard in Game 5 of the 1971 Stanley Cup Finals as it tainted his first Stanley Cup victory.
Henri Richard called him 'the worst coach he has ever played for.'
The Flames fired him as their head coach after they were swept by the Vancouver Canucks in the playoffs.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was part of four Stanley Cup winning teams as a coach, director of player personnel and assistant general manager combined.
He was the first NHL coach to come from Canada's Maritime Provinces.
He coached the Flames to the playoffs in their final season in Atlanta and in their early seasons in Calgary.
