The Resume

    (July 13, 1590-July 22, 1676)
    Born in Rome, Italy
Birth name was Emilio Bonaventura Altieri
    Bishop of Camerino (1627-66)
Pope of the Roman Catholic Church (1670-76)

Why he might be annoying:

He was chosen Pope as a compromise candidate after the College of Cardinals deadlocked for four months.
He tried to refuse the Papacy, saying 'I am too old for such a burden.'
He handed over the administration of Rome and other secular duties to his adopted nephew, Cardinal Altieri.
Critics said that Clement was Pope in name, but Altieri was Pope in fact.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was generous to the poor.
He established the first archdiocese in Canada at Quebec (1658).
Influenced by Queen Christina, he prohibited the tradition of chasing Jews through the streets of Rome during the pre-Lent Carnival.
