Head coach for the University of Oklahoma (1967-73), Phoenix Suns (1976-87), Dallas Mavericks (1987-89), New York Knicks (1990-91) and the University of Notre Dame (1991-96)
Assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns (1999-2000), Denver Nuggets (2001-04) and the Golden State Warriors (2005-06)

Why he might be annoying:

He looked like Elliott Gould.
He never played a game in the NBA.
Despite being considered an icon in Phoenix, he was unceremoniously fired by the Suns.
He failed to replicate the same degree of success he had with the Suns in his stints with the Mavericks and Knicks.

Why he might not be annoying:

He guided the Suns to the franchise's first appearance in the NBA Finals (1976).
As of 2020, he is the Suns all-time leader in both wins and games coached.
He was described as being a laid back person by former players.
His 'Sunderella' team pulled off an upset over the Golden State Warriors, who won 59 games that season, in the Western Finals (1976).
He returned to the Suns, in an assistant coaching role years after his dismissal from the club.
