Monarch

The Resume

    (September 16, 1387-August 31, 1422)
Born in Monmouth, Wales, United Kingdom
    King of England (1413-22)
    Married to Catherine of Valois
Member of the House of Lancaster

Why he might be annoying:

According to Shakespeare’s plays, he was a wild youth.
His marriage was one of political convenience, and he largely ignored his bride.
He got himself named heir to the sickly French king, Charles VI, but unexpectedly died two months before Charles.
His sudden death put his infant son on the throne, with disastrous results for English claims in France.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first king to use the English language in his correspondence since the Norman conquest three and a half centuries earlier.
At 16, he was permanently scarred after taking an arrow in the face.
He won one of England’s great victories at the Battle of Agincourt (October 25, 1415).
He (at least temporarily) conquered France for the English.
