Why he might be annoying:

Sports Illustrated called him one of the three worst draft picks of 1991.
Reporter Lisa Olson wrote that he 'is capable of botching even the simplest of plays, including a layup.'
His career outside of his run with the Bulls was uneventful.
He missed 18 games after separating his shoulder bodysurfing (1997).
While with the Suns, he attracted less attention on the court than he did for getting stung by a scorpion twice -- on the foot and buttocks -- while sitting on the floor sorting CDs. ('I could just see the injury report: Ass bite.')
His idea of trash talking: After being flattened by Karl Malone, he said, 'I'm keen to see you try that again,' prompting the usually stone-faced Malone to crack up.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first Australian to play in the NBA.
He won three championships with the Bulls.
Coach Phil Jackson said he would rather have Longley at center than Patrick Ewing or Shaquille O'Neal.
He was realistic about his success, saying 'I was pretty much a role-playing big guy who landed at the right place at the right time. I did some things well, some things poorly.'
He was named to Australia's Sports Hall of Fame (2009).
His home in Freemantle, Western Australia, was destroyed by a fire (2007).
He said his dream was to be a marine biologist.
He won an eBay auction for the naming rights to a newly discovered species of shrimp that he dubbed Lebbeus clarehanna after his fifteen-year-old daughter (2009).
