Why she might be annoying:

She was a one hit wonder.
Her career included stints as a waitress, modeling, B-movie acting, recording with Japanese artists and working at Ms. Magazine.
She abused drugs and alcohol. By her own admission, she did 'a shitload of coke' at famed Studio 54.
She sang 'Grab Them Cakes' with the Junkyard Dog on the bafoonish WWF (now WWE) 'Wrestling Album' (1985).
She supplied the voice of Pikachu's jukebox singer for the TV cartoon series 'Pokémon.' (1999-2000)

Why she might not be annoying:

She sometimes struggled with her identity as the child of an African-American actor and white folk singer in the 50's and 60's.
She played in the musical 'Hair' on Broadway.
She later starred in a show written by a friend called 'Soon' with newcomers Nell Carter, Peter Allen and Richard Gere (1970).
'Turn The Beat Around' was a Top 10 smash and stayed in the Top 40 for 13 weeks (1976).
She did session work for a variety of artists, including Cher, Michael Bolton and RuPaul.
Gloria Estefan recorded her hit and had a hit of her own with it.
She rerecorded it and it became a dance club hit all over again (1991).
'Turn The Beat Around' was ranked #30 on VH1's '100 Greatest Dance Songs.'
