Why Champaign, Illinois might be annoying:

Their Assembly Hall basketball arena looks like a giant flying saucer.
It is full of snotty, upper-middle class college kids from suburban Chicago.
Until 2007, the university's mascot was a student who dressed up as a Native American chief and danced.
They have a street named after has-been 80's rockers and Champaign natives REO Speedwagon.
Their mayor, Jerry Schweighart, caused controversy when he said he didn't think Obama was an American citizen.
Said mayor lost his re-election bid to a local rock guitarist (2010).

Why Champaign, Illinois might not be annoying:

Bob Dylan and Carl Perkins co-wrote a song about this city.
The first ever Farm Aid benefit concert was held here.
It is widely considered the best city in Illinois outside of Chicago.
George F. Will and film critic Roger Ebert are from here.
It is where Roger Ebert holds his annual film festival.
It is surrounded by some of the richest farming soil on the planet.
