Why he might be annoying:

His biggest pop hit, 'The All-American Boy' (1959), was credited to his friend Bill Parsons (either by mistake or because Bare was signed to a different label than the one that wanted to release the song, depending on which story you believe).
He recorded a song with one of the goofiest titles in country music history, 'Dropkick Me, Jesus (Through the Goalposts of Life).'
He wrote a song for consideration as Norway's entry in the 2012 Eurovision contest, but it was ultimately passed over.
Inevitably, he released a greatest hits album called 'Bare Essentials.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Although he did not receive any royalties for 'The All-American Boy,' he was not upset: 'Fact is, it was really good that my name wasn't on that record. Because then I probably wouldn't have had any serious hits like 'Detroit City.' I would've been pegged as a novelty-type guy.'
His 'Lullabys, Legends and Lies' (1973) has been credited as the first country music concept album.
His oldest daughter Cari died at age 15 from complications after routine surgery (1976).
He was dubbed 'the Bruce Springsteen of country' by concert promoter Bill Graham for his ability to convey a story in song.
He said, 'I never let anybody coerce me into cutting a song I don't like. Otherwise it might be a monster hit and I'd have to sing it for the rest of my life.'
