She comes from a family full of politicians.
She won the governorship of Kansas after the Republican candidate polarized both conservatives and moderates.
She did not approve of a ban on gay marriage even though Kansas voters overwhelmingly approved it.
She was born in Ohio but governed Kansas.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was considered as a possible running mate to John Kerry in 2004, and a possible presidential candidate in 2008.
During her time as Insurance Commissioner of Kansas, she refused donations from insurance companies.
She never raised taxes or cut essential funding.
She is well liked in a mostly conservative state.
She said about concealed handguns, 'I don't believe allowing people to carry concealed handguns into sporting events, shopping malls, grocery stores, or the workplace would be good public policy. And to me the likelihood of exposing children to loaded handguns in their parents purses, pockets and automobiles is simply unacceptable.'
