The Resume

    (September 26, 1987-May 6, 1992)
    Drama series
    Originally aired on CBS
William Conrad as District Attorney J. L. 'Fatman' McCabe
Joe Penny as Detective Jake Styles
Alan Campbell as Assistant District Attorney Derek Mitchell
Premise: The chronicles of an obese district attorney and his handsome, happy-go-lucky detective partner

Why Jake and the Fatman might be annoying:

Fatman and Jake often clashed with each other.
Fatman hardly traveled anywhere without his companion Max, his pet bulldog.
When Joe Penny lost a large amount of weight after the show moved to Hawaii, it was falsely speculated that he contracted AIDS. In actuality, he had suffered from a gastrointestinal virus and was having difficulty regaining the weight he lost.
When the series moved back to Los Angeles, it was believed that it was again based on Penny's decision.
The series had been synonymous wit hip-hop culture to the point that the term 'Jake' refers to a police officer.

Why Jake and the Fatman might not be annoying:

The episodes were very raw and emotional.
They featured rape, suicide, drug abuse and incest.
There were many memorable guest stars throughout the series' run.
A year after the series was canceled, it gave birth to a spinoff series, 'Diagnosis: Murder.'
