The Resume

    (September 2011- )
    Born in Venice, California
Image messaging and multimedia mobile application (app)
Created by Evan Spiegel (chief executive officer), Bobby Murphy (chief technical officer), and Reggie Brown (then-chief marketing officer)
iPhone Operating System (iOS) / Android

Why Snapchat might be annoying:

Unless you have a wireless device (think Insta), don’t bother.
How original and simplistic; a message is referred to as a ‘snap.’
One of Spiegel’s classmates thought, if it ever got off the ground, it would be used only for ‘sexting’ (sex-oriented text messaging).
For some weird reason, the dog face is incredibly popular.
Then again, it’s a way to send naughty pictures without getting caught… yet.
An anonymous group hacked into the site to raise public awareness about a mitigation vulnerability (December 2013); some 4 ½ million usernames and phone numbers were posted to highlight this deficiency.
In its first four years, the interface required literally keeping a finger on the relevant video clip to hold and watch.

Why Snapchat might not be annoying:

The logo is pretty simple and straightforward: white ghost figure outlined in black on solid yellow (Ghostface Chillah, named after guess who).
Since little else is in play beyond captioning and doodling, it’s a remarkably simple application.
Spiegel launched the project from his father’s living room, as Picaboo.
Nearly two years after its creation, subscribers were sending off an average of 800 snaps per second (60 million a day); a year after that, it went up five times!
The juvenile design of the app is deliberate, to appeal to a young user base and / or a childhood where self-consciousness is hardly an issue.
If your picture disappears, your record of your interactions remains, as if using a cellular.
