    He hit a 12th inning home run against the Philadelphia Phillies to break up a 6-6 tie as the Dodgers won the 1957 season opener, 7-6 (April 16, 1957).

    Prior to Bill Mazeroski's walk-off home run, he recorded a pinch hit single as it started a 5-run rally which it helped the Pirates win the 1960 World Series over the Yankees in 7 games.
    Following his baseball career, he was a United Parcel Service delivery driver for over 2 decades with no traffic accidents and was known as 'The Lou Gehrig of the UPS.'
