Religious Figure

The Resume

    (April 17, 1938-November 28, 1998)
    Born in Los Angeles, California
Served in the US Marines with Lee Harvey Oswald
Wrote a novel inspired by Oswald's defection to the Soviet Union, 'The Idle Warriors' (written 1962; published 1991)
Testified about Oswald to the Warren Commission (1964)
Subpoenaed during Jim Garrison's investigation of the JFK assassination (1968)
With Greg Hill, wrote 'Principia Discordia' (1963)
Co-founder with Hill of the religion Discordianism

Why he might be annoying:

He was a Marxist who converted to Libertarianism (upon reading Ayn Rand's 'Atlas Shrugged') who converted to anarchism.
He also used the names Lord Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst and Ho Chi Zen.
He was in a bar when John F. Kennedy was assassinated and celebrated by offering to buy a round of drinks.
He went from agreeing that Oswald was the lone gunman to declaring that there was a conspiracy to kill JFK to announcing that he was one of the conspirators.
He eventually declared that he and Oswald were the products of a breeding program carried out by a neo-Nazi sect of eugenicists called the Vril Society and that he and Oswald had been manipulated throughout their lives by Vril overlords.
He was diagnosed a schizophrenic but never sought treatment.
He ended up living in the storage room of a used bookstore in Atlanta.

Why he might not be annoying:

He helped organize the Golden Gate Park 'Human Be-In' that kicked of the Summer of Love (1967).
Upon discovering that one of Garrison's aides, Allan Chapman, believed that the Illuminati were behind the JFK assassination*, he had his Discordian friends send out tons of bogus info about the Illuminati. (*Hey, it ain't any goofier than Garrison's own gay thrill-killing hypothesis.)
In addition to knowing Oswald, he knew two of the people Garrison was investigating as potentially linked to the assassination (Guy Bannister and David Ferrie) and two mobsters rumored to be behind the assassination (Carlos Marcello and Johnny Roselli).
More for the odd coincidence department: The first copies of 'Principia Discordia' had been clandestinely cranked out using the mimeograph machine from Garrison's office.
With this many connections floating about, we might have had a hard time buying that it was all a coincidence ourselves.
He has been called 'the Forrest Gump of the JFK assassination.'
