Why One Day at a Time might be annoying
It was never explained why Ann Romano walked out on her husband - the show just needed her divorced.
She wanted to be referred to as Ms. Romano, ad nauseam.
Schneider, the Lothario maintenance man, constantly burst in unannounced to wisecrack, which never seemed to creep out the family.
All three women ending up getting married at various stages, an indication of a sitcom existing past its prime.
The 1980-81 season introduced a male teen to counter the 'aging girls' ('jump the shark' alert).
Phillips was fired twice for drug addiction.
Why One Day at a Time might not be annoying
It was the first sitcom featuring a female divorcee and the first using Indianapolis as its backdrop.
At least Ann Romano was not an 'in your face' feminist like Bea Arther's 'Maude.'
The show expanded the use of 'dramedy' (a drama/comedy combo) by taking on issues like drunk driving, birth control, suicide, sexuality, equality for women, etc.
Though CBS aired it at 11 different time slots during its run, it never dropped out of the Top 20 in the Nielsen ratings.
It was the #8 overall Nielsen show during the 1976-77 season.
Bertinelli and Harrington, Jr. won Golden Globes in 1981.
Brian from 'Family Guy' at first detested the show, then became hooked on it.
