Why they might be annoying
They didn't play in an actual MLS game until over three years into their inception.
They had to play home matches for the first half of the 2017 season at Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium due to delays in the construction of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Their uniforms are almost identical to those of Italy's Cagliari FC (but a different pattern arrangement).
When head coach Tata Martino first took the job, he claimed he didn't know anything about Atlanta because it had never had a soccer team (actually it's had several, albeit short-lived, teams).
Its fanbase started a rivalry with Orlando City SC before the two teams had even faced off yet.
It retired a number before playing an MLS game.
Its inordinately loud following earned them the 'most hated MLS team' monikker - again before they'd won anything. (Notice a trend, here?)
Why they might not be annoying
Both the team name and the team's nickname were voted on by Atlanta F.C. fans.
They scored an MLS Cup playoff appearance in their debut season.
They set several league records for highest single-match and average attendance (a more impressive feat for such a young team).
It retired #17 to honor its fans.
They have a more sizable representation of Latin American footballers than their higher-profile US counterparts.
They count Roddy White Ric Flair and Waka Flocka Flame among their growing fan base.
They won the MLS championship with a 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers. The win marked Atlanta's first major sports title since the Braves' 1995 World Series win.
'Forbes' declared it the most valuable MLS franchise, valuing it at $300 million (2018).
