During the Miss Universe contest she only wore pink.
She gave birth to her first child when she was 38.
She briefly dated The Donald.
In 1999, she ran unsuccessfully for president of Venezuela.

Irene's mother died when she was 3.
After crowning her successor, Irene completed her political science degree and entered politics.
She became mayor of Chacao and governor of Isla Margarita state.
In 1996, Australia Magazine declared Irene one of the '100 Most Powerful Women in the World.'
The Miss Universe Organization presented her with the Distinguished Achievement Award (1997).
Venezuelan women hold her in high esteem for proving that a woman can be beautiful and smart.
