Why he might be annoying:

    As was the custom, astronauts nicknamed their capsule. He along with Gus Grissom nicknamed their capsule 'Molly Brown' (as in the Unsinkable Molly Brown). NASA was not amused and for a lengthy period stopped allowing astronauts to nickname their crafts.
    He brought along an unauthorized corned beef sandwich on his Gemini 3 mission.
    He gardens and reads.
    He received four 4 honorary doctorate degrees.

    He was the only astronaut to fly into space during the 1960's, 70's and 80's.
    He was the only astronaut to fly a Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle mission.
    He was the first to pilot and land a spacecraft from orbit back to Earth.
    He, along with astronaut Charles Duke, Jr. spent a record three days on the Moon.
    He flew on both the first Gemini and first Space Shuttle missions.
    He was aboard the final Apollo flight to the Moon before landing a man there.
    He was an astronaut for over forty years.
    He graduated Georgia Institute of Technology (1952).
    He has earned nearly 100 major awards.
    He is the first person to fly in space six times (seven if you count his launch off the Moon).
    He and Charles Duke, Jr. brought back 200 pounds of Moon rocks
    He and Charles Duke, Jr. travelled 16 miles in the lunar rover.
